Posh Sausage and Mash. Innit.

The Mills/Davies visited Kozee Kottage for red wine and Sausage Casoulet (just made that up) with Parmesan mash. Yup, that's the way we roll in the Ends. Not just bangers n mash on Antill Road. We leave that to the south Londoners (soz Han).

Start by softening red onion on a frying pan

Add garlic - LOTS. Perhaps not the best dish if you and your partner haven't been together long. Luckily Grace and I have been dating our men (boy, in Peglegs case, he's only young, bless him) a looooonnnnnng time

Then add fresh chilli, chopped tomatoes and red wine as well as any sweet erbs of your choice. Meanwhile brown (braawwn) off your sausages in the oven.

Then put both together in said saucepan for a bit before transferring to the oven.

Grate Parmesan and add to boiled and peeled potatoes with more butter than you think you need

Take sausages out of oven

Arrange on a plate with a green veg of your choice and serve

And voila!! A posh sausage tea that has resulted in Lozza inviting us to theirs on fri night "for something other than burnt pizza". Result!!
Footnote: the pizza was great btw. If only slightly charred on edges. But who's analysing?!

Snack time in Salvador

After a tres stressful day location scouting ( our production is shit) I told Hannah unless she got me a small present I was most likely to kill him and myself.

And boy does hughesy know me well. What could possibly cheer up a person on the brink of suicide/murder

And yes the answer was simple. Cheese on a stick. I predict this to be a firm brazil fave.

Sunday night at the Peacock

Delish dinner served up by ms Peacock all from Jamie's 30min (yeah right) meals. Piri piri chicken, to which Sam said 'If it's not as good as Nando's I'm leaving!'. Obvs a joke as Sam doesn't even like Nando's (I know!). Sides were rocket salad and roasted sweet potato and potato with feta. Finished off with cheese from the Formargerie. Magnifique!

Thursday's duck soup and experimental cocktails

A rare date night for Sam and I. It had a dubious start, me not feeling 100% and our first dinner venue meat liquor tried to squeeze us in behind a pillar and a table, no one's that thin!
So we went to the new dean st hipster joint Duck Soup. The food was pretty good as was the wine but at stupid price and we were sat at a bar!!! A poor man's Polpetto (another dean st joint) in my opinion or a rich man with a love of a bar stool. Anyway with dampened spirits we wondered to the Experimental Cocktail Club and with a cheeky French waitress and a couple of cocktails we were quite the chirpy couple. Well who doesn't love a well made Old Fashioned!
Gin based cocktail, could've had ten.
Crab at Duck Soup, Sam had a 'Pretty Woman' moment when he accidentally hit the lady with a crab claw and said 'slippery sucker'
The Saffer fave lamb chops
Looks like baby sick but pumpkin, spinach stew with goats curd was the best thing on the menu.
Only way to have broccoli now with anchovies and ricotta
Sam and his Old Fashioned!

Wednesday night treat

As usual I was too greedy to blog so went for dinner without a single pic. However in a moment of clarity (full belly) I saw the dessert and took a tasty pic. So here is riding house cafe's famous Sunday. Nothing was a miss from chewy macaroon and creamy ice cream to perfect chocolate sauce. Hold on to your sweet tooth....

Tuesday's dinner: a sausage fest

10/10 Unlike me, I went for a relatively unhealthy Tuesday tea consisting of pork sausages, green beans, a quick onion gravy, and creamy mash (my plate did without mash...it's a TUESDAY ffs) Sam was literally beaming the poor lad never gets carbs on a weeknight especially not the white variety. Have to admit it was a prefect cosy supper on a cold November evening.

Monday Tea: Chav Quiche Vs Fancy

For all the whatdidyouhavefortealastnight haters out there, yes you know who you are.

Here is a homemade post.

I'm not quite sure the difference, as I'm sure Somalians don't buy roll your own pastry or davidstow cheddar but anyhoo......

Backpacks been away so I decided to make him a quiche, I told him it was going to be asparagus, which he followed with protests that that was WAY too fancy.

I replied I bet you want quiche Lorraine don't you? (he's a total chav)

He replied, no actually I dont. I want bacon and cheese...!

Okaaiiiyyyyyy

So I kind of cheated as I bought roll your own pastry. Roll out the pastry, grease your oven dish and line with pastry.

Make  it fancy

For the filling- whisk together 300ml milk (cream for non rexies)
2 full eggs and one egg yolk.

Prepare the filling, fry off some bacon and onions and briefly steam the asparagus.

Grate Plenty of davidstow cheddar

Mix together the egg and milk mixture with the cheese and onion.

Fill in the pastry case

Then to please both chav and fancy place bacon and mushrooms at one side and asparagus at the other.

Cook for 45 mins and voila 'the everyone's a winner' quiche.

For extra chav factor serve with baked beans, coleslaw and white lightning.
