A little bit of what you fancy

I headed to kingsland road, hangover in tow, to meet Downie in super trendy cafe 'a little of what you fancy'

We ordered a bloody Mary to start, which was basically disgusting...

£6.50 as well waste.of.money. You could get nearly 7 tins of Heinz tomato soup for that!

Followed by aubergine parmigiana with rocket, walnut and pomegranate salad. (sozza pic taken half way through)

It was really delish, however£16.50...! And we left feeling hungry. In conclusion tasty but overpriced, they were right when they said 'a little of what you fancy'

L'Entrecote steak frites with Carla and Sue

Last night's dinner was so delicious I gave England's fattest man (60 stone /20000 kcals a day #fact) a run for his money. It was so so tasty that it was even worth waiting for an hour (64mins according to Carla) and I don't say that lightly. Its one of those restaurants that don't take bookings but has a line snaking around the building. My friend Sue confirmed it was the longest line she'd ever seen there but we decided to brave it anyway. It was worth it. There is no menu at L'Entrecote (we were at the Marylebone Lane one - appaz there's one at Bank but it's not as good according to a man we met in the queue #friendly) - it's just steak and frites with a starter of lettuce salad (gawd knows what they do to everything but even this was delicious) and fresh French bread (no butter mind, it's French innit- apparently that's not le way). Then they bring the piece de resistance: steak and frite.

Apologies for the shot half way through eating (I'd been waiting an hour - priorities right?). So. The steak is thinly sliced and has the most delicious sauce known to mankind on it (not exactly sure what it is but take
my word for it). The frites are cooked to perfection. And the best thing? They give you second helpings without you asking - just nonchalantly on a tray. It's so goddamn chic. We even shared profiteroles for pudding (not as good as the steak frites so we'll skim over them).

Sorry about the slight blur we'd had a few glasses of vin rouge by that point to get into the French spirit you see (when in Rome). All in all a taste sensation. I want to go again - like now, for breakfast.

My carers tea

Oh and after serving me my tomato soup - here's my carers tea of .... Well... To be honest I'm not really sure, I think there's a burger in there somewhere?!
The presentation of this is enough to make me gag, even without the suspected e coli poisoning.

The poor me, poor me, tea

After having to leave the off earlier due to suspected ecoli from a bloody Michelin star Indian. I went to the docs for the 3rd time this week and unlike Hannah Hughes who says not to eat for 24 hours, (thanks Dr Hughes) my local GP said eating was necessary but must be kept little, simple and often.
I went for the classic from my youth, Heinz tomato soup, (only 95p- WoW) with floating cheese chunks and toast.

Yum, but couldn't manage it all, stomach seems to have shrunk.
Well every cloud and all that..

Oh and my poorly me pj's that my carer says should categorically NOT be seen on a 29 year old.
WTF?! Hell o ho.. Have you heard of retro??

Afternoon Tea

What did you have for tea last night? Actual tea, for that matter!

The lovely people at afternoonteafortwo.co.uk set me and my Bucks visiting friend Carrie up with the most delish afternoon tea at The Pelham Hotel in South Ken.

Basil me up gin cocktails, fresh sandwiches (cured ham and figs, smoked chicken and red pepper pesto, somerset brie and olives), mojito jelly, chocolate and caramel pop cakes, sweet and savoury scones, mini cupcakes, and a spot of earl grey...it was amazing. Surprising how filling mini food can be. Pretty sure its less calories though, no??

Then because the gin cocktails had got us on the sauce we went for a few cheeky bombay sapphires at a pub around the corner. Nearly saw my rainbow cupcakes again when they asked for £17.50 for a round.

East London anyone?

Meat Free Monday

As a die hard carnivore, going a day sans meat is a bit of a challenge. But, I have to say, Hugh Fernley-Whats-his-face's chachouka recipe made me feel anything but deprived.

First fry cumin seeds, onion, garlic, chilli and red pepper for 5-10 mins until soft. Add plum tomatoes, passanta, fresh basil, salt and pepper and simmer until the mixture starts to reduce. Then make small wells in the sauce (depending how many people/hunger levels) then crack an egg into each one. Bake in the oven (preheated to 180) for 10 mins until the whites are firm but the yolk is still soft. Serve with salad, grated parmesan cheese and warm foccacia bread. YUM.
